2014 C7 Corvette – Passenger Centre Air Vent
3D Hub was asked if to convert the existing passenger centre air vent for the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette converted from LH to RH drive. The challenge was to come up with a solution that looked, felt and behaved the same as the original design.
We started by reviewing the product and found we could utilise the vanes and control lever from the original vent. The chrome trim or bezel could be 3D Printed, chromed and finished to replicate the original finish. This meant we would be able to convert the vent over and still have it look like the original C7 Corvette vent.
The vent was stripped down and all the parts 3D scanned. The parts to be reused were modelled off the scan data and the remaining data was mirrored then re-designed to be 3D printed.
MANUFACTURE:
The new air vent has been specifically designed for 3D printing. The majority of printed parts will be hidden behind the dash other than the chromed trim. By reusing the original vanes and lever plus the matching chrome finish on the trim, the final product will look fully resolved and won’t look out of place to the passenger.
The mechanical properties, design flexibility and limitations of 3D printing have been included in the development, resulting in a product that performs to the same high standards as the OEM unit.
SALE:
The converted vent is for sale, please contact Craig Russell for details.
